What To Expect
What can I expect on my first visit?
By consulting our office, you're taking an exciting first step toward better health.
Chiropractic care is different. It is this difference that offers new ways to get well and stay well. You'll meet the doctor after filling out some brief paper work that can be printed off online describing you and your health history. We offer this initial consultation so we can both get to know one another.
If you're a good candidate for chiropractic care and we think we can help, an examination follows. We'll study the way you turn and bend. We may test your reflexes. These and other physical, orthopedic and chiropractic tests help us locate areas of your spine that could be the cause of your problem. Our examination is thorough and will put you at ease.
Will I have to have X-rays?
X-rays or pictures of your spine, especially after trauma, can confirm our findings and make your care more precise. We can tell you if we need to perform xrays after completing the History and examination. Dr. Tkachuk will study the results and give you a complete report of findings. Dr. Tkachuk will show you what he found and the conclusions he has reached. If Dr. Tkachuk finds that you would benefit from consulting a different practitioner, he will make the proper referral. Otherwise, he will recommend a program of specific chiropractic care.
How long until I feel better?
Some patients experience almost instant relief. Others discover that the healing process can take months. Factors which can affect the healing process include your age, your overall health condition, muscle tone, diet and even your attitude.
When will I get my first adjustment?
It depends upon your complaint and how long it may take to study your examination findings. This is a clinical decision and varies from patient to patient.
Chiropractic treatment consists of three stages of care:
Initial Care
Usually where most patients begin their care, the primary focus in this stage is to reduce or eliminate the most obvious symptoms.
Corrective Care
When an ache or pain diminishes, treatment is focussed on stabilizing spinal function to promote a more complete healing. This is the stage when muscles and soft tissues are strengthened, helping to avoid a relapse.
Wellness Care
After maximum spinal function is restored, this type of preventive care can save time and money by identifying and fixing minor problems before they become serious.
Babies and Infants
The birth process can be very traumatic on the newborn's spine. Drugs given during labor, unnatural birthing positions, pulling and twisting of the baby, and invasive procedures like forceps, vacuum extraction and C-section can result in interference with normal nerve transmission between the brain and body. Immediate pain and health problems can result, or problems may lie dormant, only to show up years later as chronic health concern.
Children and Teens
During these important growth years, youngsters encounter many opportunities to incur spinal injuries (subluxations). While learning to walk, it is common for a toddler to fall on their bottom and as the child grows, the normal playfulness, experimentation, and testing of the limits can lead to potentially damaging effects on the spine. Good physical and mental health is crucial as the child experiences both physical growth and hormonal change. Keeping their system healthy and subluxation-free is essential to wellness now and in the future.
Adults
It is not unusual for adults to face increased challenges and emotional stress in family life, work life, and personal relationships that can diminish their health. Regular chiropractic care can help us thrive through this and every other phase of life by helping to maintain health and wellness.
Seniors
The choices we make before our retirement years will play a large part in assuring an active, healthy, and enjoyable life during our golden years. Healthy spines lead to the healthy muscles, organs, and systems that are critical for good health and longevity. Regardless of age, millions of people have discovered the life-long benefits of chiropractic care.
